Dock.
Heliport.
Tank Hangar.
В 1 Tank hangar.
В2 Tank Hangar.
Revolver Ocelot.
В2 Tank Hanger.
№13 (card box), №14 (mine detector).
2. Gunner.
Nuke Dldg 1.
В1 Nuke BLDG.
В2 NUKE BLDG.
3. Ninja.
4. Psycho Mantis.
Comfnder Room.
Сave.
U.Grnd Pssge
Armory.
U. Grnd Pssge.
Roof/Comm. TWR.
Walkway.
Comm. Twr b.
5. Hind.
Comm. Twr b.
Sniper Wolf.
6. Sniper Wolf.
Snow Field.
Insert Disc.
Blast Furnace.
7. Raven.
Warehouse.
U.Grnd. Base.
Metal Gear Rex.
8. Metal Gear Rex.
9. Liquid.
Socom gun.
Famas.
Psg.
Remote — controlled — missile (nikita launcher)
Stinger missile.
Grenade.
Chaff grenade.
Stun grenade.
Claymore.
Ration.
Diazepam.
Cigarettes.
Mine detector.
Thermal goggles.
Night — vision goggles.
Magnifying scope.
Gas masc.
Card box a,b,c.
Body armor.
id card.

Best Way To Defeat Crying Wolf
Under The Tanker
The best way to defeat Crying Wolf is to hide under the tanker in the middle of the field and wait until she comes out and open up and then shoot her. Its best to have an sniper rifle with a silencer. In the process of waiting for Crying Wolf pick off the other people running around. It takes a while to defeat Crying Wolf due to the fact that she only comes out every so often, but it"s worth the wait if no life is lost and everything is done undercover. Crying Wolf and or the other people will never find you.

Getting The Five Statues
In Act 1, when you have to fight the frog soilders, either don"t kill any of them or use the MK II to make them fall asleep. If you did this correctly then there will be a frog solider statue inside the garage near where u get out.
On to the BBs, all you have to do is use the MK II on them (you can use the mantis doll on screaming mantis and you will still get the statue).
Location of Beast statues: LO"s statues is on a bed in one of the rooms. RR"s is on the top floor. CW"s is near the bulding were you leave (on the right side of the building). And SM"s is a the door where u game through.
You must get the statues before the three minutes end (except for crying wolf, you can get that statue after both battles.

Liquid Snake Strategy
when you face him you will have four rounds of him changing his "style" here is an easy way to win.
1. When the round begins he will charge at you. First combo punch him to knock him down, and then rush at him before he gets up. Hold L1, and when he gets up, press R1 twice and the first punch should break his guard. The second punch will get him down and do some damage repeat this until the cutscene.
2. This round is very simple, just dash out of the way when he winds up for the punch. after you dodge, you can either hit him with a combo or the L1 R1 method.
3. All you have to do is combo, combo, combo, and you will win.
4. This round you have to hit him 7 times. Very simple.

Easy Vamp battle
Vamp is a total sucker for the solar gun. When the battle begins, charge the solar gun all the way, then when vamp runs toward you shoot him, he will immediately fall. You only have a few seconds before he gets back up, so hurry and unequip the solar gun and equip the syringe naomi gives you in the second act. Sneak behind Vamp and right when he"s getting up hold R1 and get him in a CQC chokehold. Then press triangle and snake should inject vamp with the nanomachine suppressors.

Even easier way to kill a Gekko
All you need is the .50 caliber sniper rifle and a keen eye. Maybe a little bit of good timing. Equip it, take aim at the head, and fire. I hope you like 1 shot kills...

Easy Way To Kill Gekko
This hint only works after you have defeated crying wolf. All you have to do is to aim at a Gekko with the railgun, wait for it to charge full, pull the trigger and enjoy Gekko dying with 1-shot-kill. Note: aim for its head, not its legs.

Beating Screaming Mantis
First have the mosin nagute (the tranquilizer rifle), the M-14, and the syringe. First use the syringe so that she can"t control you. Next shoot The Sorrow puppet with the M14, be careful because you don"t want to kill Meryl. After the Sorrow doll falls pick it up so the frogs stop shooting. The shoot the Mantis doll with the mosin nagute until it falls, then shoot Screaming Mantis with the Mantis doll then shake the controller like crazy (If you want to finish her quick, then get the Mantis doll). To beat Screaming Beauty just shoot her with the tranquilizer hand gun. If you killed her by pysche you get her facecamo and you get any of her dolls that you shot out of her hand.

Extra MGS1 Shadow Moses Ghosts
MGS1 Otacon - To find the ghost of Otacon (which sn"t technically a ghost since Otacon is still alive, but oh well), you must go into Otacon"s old office. After putting in the password for the security, look above the desk with the monitor you put the code in. You should see a Policenaughts poster. Take your camera and aim slightly to the left (a couple of inches) and take a photo, if done in the correct place, you should see an image of Otacon from MGS1.
Liquid Snake - After entering the Snowfield/Comm Tower area and defeating Crying Wolf, head to the right of the Comm Towers from where you entered the area, before Otacon tells you to change the disc. You should find Liquid"s Hind D you fought in MGS1. There will be a flashback to when you destroyed his chopper, which you can listen to for an easy 1000 DP. Then pull out the camera and aim at the cockpit, Liquid"s ghost should appear. Because of the blizzard it can sometimes be hard to see the ghost, so it might be easier to look at the photo in the photo album and edit the photo to see it.

First play, No-Alert, No-Kill, Bonuses Grabbing Walkthrough
Life"s a game.
War, a business.
-- unknown Battletech Technical Readout
Introduction
This is a walkthrough to help you unlock the Stealth Camo, Bandanna, Solar
Gun, Tanegashima, and all the Beauty Face Camo on your first time through on
Liquid Easy, Naked Normal or Solid Normal difficulty. Unless you are supremely
confident you can beat games on Realistic, Insane, or Legendary difficulties
the first time through, you should stick to the lower three tiers until you
are superbly comfortable with the game. Getting a single alert or "accidental"
kill will despoil the purpose of no alerts and no kills -- and for the most
advanced rank (Big Boss) no usage of restorative items under a strict time
constraint.
On the other hand, if you do decide to attempt your first-through (not a
replay after you completed the game, even if you go New Game and eschew your
cleared save), you"re either lying to yourself, or you are a Gen-Y/Millennial
assed-faced f-tard who splooges on Facebook. Someone may want to learn you
some humility, preferably by putting their entire weight on one of your feet,
then shoving you over to hear the bone crack. The sole purpose of having
easier difficulties serves as hardcore training for the earnestly destructive
difficulties -- Hard and Extreme. Those difficulties are not a laughing matter.
Basics - Alerts and Kills Criteria
Since the point of this is to help newbies and MGS vets who discounted the
second and third and portable games as money-making filler material (i.e.,
crap), Metal Gear 4"s criteria for "alerts" and "kills" are slightly different
from the old Big Boss ranking on the PSX. Luckily, simalcrum doesn"t have to
consider the crap for the Big Boss stuff, since the unlockable stuff there is
rumored to be password accessible (meaning spray-for-pay unlockables, just
like some contemporary games of ill-repute) on a later date. So let"s focus on
the earnestly neat crap you can get with no alerts and no kills, which is
strangely, not how Solid Snake would really act in real life.
DAS Belohnung (Reward)
Just a note on what we"re going after here:
-- Stealth Camo -- Clear the game with no alerts attributable to Snake.
-- Bandanna -- Clear the game with no kills attributable to Snake.
-- Solar Gun -- Defeat the bosses in beast form using LTL means.
-- Tanegashima -- Accrue 500,000 Drebin Dollars.
Alert Criteria
An alert is essentially what"s detailed in the instruction manual. A period of
alarm, when the red display pops up signifying that you or any drone you"re
operating is discovered by the enemy. During an "alert phase", enemies will
respawn into the area, looking for you and trying to kill you. If the alert
phase runs down, the game enters the "evasion phase", where you try to stay
undetected until that phase passes.
During an evasion phase, you can re-trigger an alert (alert count +1). Not
sure if reseting the alert phase timer will increase the count, although
getting a high number of alerts will be quite easy if you"re looking to get
something for that.
After the evasion timer is run down, the game enters "caution phase", where by
enemies are more cautious and attentive than if they were on a normal patrol.
Enemies will move quickly and generally together, making this mode dangerous
to your no alert requisite, but by all means it will not count towards it.
Note that an evasion phase means you failed the no alert rule, since evasion
only occurs if you are discovered (hence an alert).
During some encounters, the game will be have a "loud ambient sound" modifier,
whereby enemies will be cognizant of their NPC enemies (local militias vs.
foreign PMCs -- a.k.a., Iraq & Afghanistan II: Electric Boo-ga-loo). During
such a section, enemies will still cause alerts, although you will need to see
the red timer for it to count.
No alerts are honestly harder to pull off than no kills if you don"t know the
map, but they are easiest once you know where to go and what to do. No alerts
is just hard to do without killing, since the LTL (less-than-lethal) attacks
you have are severely limited. This is especially true when you first go
through the game. In encounters where enemies are always alerted to your
presence (say, in a boss fight, duh) then you have no concerns unless there
are other enemies around that are in their unalerted status.
Kill Criteria
Kills are fairly easy to judge. If you shoot someone in the head, or use the
stun knife to gut their ass, they die. However, what constitutes a legal
target for the no kill criteria is a little more difficult. Essentially, you
want to kill no humans. They count against your no kill criteria. Stuff that
do not count -- the "Gecko" or giant ass robots, and the little polo ball bots
or "Mini Gecko" in the last two stages. Every other enemy has the potential to
be counted as a kill (possibly including animals), so when in doubt, holster
your weapon.
The bosses do not count in their mechanical forms as "kills", but in their
human forms, they are people. That said, use LTL means to take out the hot
nude chicks when they cast off their mecha armor.
By far, the most useful weapon of course, is the Mk.II Pistol and Mosin-Nagant
since they are LTL weapons. However, the shotguns can fire stun ammo (called V-
Ring ammo) and the Stun Grenade and Stun Knife can flashbang or taser enemies.
CQC throws (not chokes, which eventually kill enemies if you choke them too
long) are also non-lethal, so you can use that as well. The Saiga 12 with LTL
ammo is great; you can fire almost indiscriminately if you have the ammunition
to spare on Normal or Easy.
Keeping that in mind, keep the Mk.II Pistol and Mosin-Nagant in your weapon
slots. The stun knife requires you to get really close, which defeats the
purpose of no alerts, except in certain fights. The Metal Gear Mk.II can also
stun enemies, but note that there is a big difference between stun and sleep.
Art of Stealth
You have the Octo-Camo, which lets you become almost invisible to enemies
(around 70%). Enemies can still hear footsteps and noise created from
collisions with random objects (jars, bottles, etc.) and running quickly on
echoic textures (metal, tile, etc.). Hence, the art of stealth involves mainly
in not creating noise, not creating a chance of being seen by the enemy A.I.,
and ultimately not creating any sort of change in the environment that would
make the A.I. suspect something was out of place.
When marching out into a populated area, always be aware of what crap you can
create -- and take steps in avoiding that mistake. When given a chance to
come across an enemy and simply avoiding an encounter, choose the path of
least resistance and avoid the area entirely. When you consider the amount of
carnage you can get away with once you have the Stealth Camo Unit, the effort
of restraint becomes very alluring when you play.
Make every effort to avoid detection, even if it means expending a few shots
of LTL ammo on downing an enemy; if you can drop someone because he"s too
close to your intended path of travel, the ammo you expend is nothing compared
to the time you need to save and reload a game.
Stun Vs. Sleep
Stunned enemies display stars while sleeping enemies display Zs. While
functionally identical (enemies are kaput and cannot notice you until they
wake up), stunned enemies will create a "caution phase" when they wake up
while sleeping enemies will wake up and not remember why they fell asleep and
simply go back to their normal patrol route.
Stuns can occur from Stun Grenades, close quarters combat (throws, chokes and
slams), the taser from the stun knife, and the LTL ammo from the shotgun.
Sleep can occur only from the tranquilizer weapons -- Mk.II Pistol and Mosin-
Nagant, making them very valuable if you want to cause no alerts while keeping
your kill count to zero.
Also another thing to note: when enemies are stunned and sleeping, they can be
awakened by their NPC allies, except in cases when there is loud ambient noise
(say in a warzone encounter or a boss fight). With that in mind, use stun type
weapons in those situations unless the loud noise will give away your position
(hence cause an alert). The tranquilizer ammunition will be very valuable,
since you will not have many chances to get any except through buying it from
Drebin (impossible on higher difficulties).
Save Yourself Trouble
Metal Gear Solid 4 will save progress only at checkpoints, not actual saved
states like a real game. Keep this in mind since you will need to know where
checkpoints are to avoid ripping off your own privates in frustration at a
failed no alert run.
When the game displays black bars on the top and bottom of the TV (and
incidentally shows you the next area"s name), you will cross to a new
checkpoint. Whenever one of those cut-scenes play, chances are a checkpoint
will have been made. Always check the lower left corner of your screen as you
move around to a new area. When you see the very light white words "Checkpoint
Reached", you should make a new saved game to mark your progress.
Did simalcrum say new saved game?
Yes.
Do you know why?
So you have a lengthy save history for you to go back at almost any point of
the chapter in case you did cause an alert or kill someone by accident. This
means you do not have to restart the game from the start of a chapter, but in
the middle where you think you might"ve fuched yourself up the ass. The PS3,
being $600, can hold a large number of saved games.
Keep in mind that the thumbnail created by the save may appear the same as a
previous save (best example, Drebin"s APC escape), but the text description
accompanying the save game will clue you in on where you are in the game. Pay
attention to that, as it will save you a lot of grief of going back too far to
avoid your mistakes of the past.
Make several saves, but start overwriting saves two chapters back once you"re
sure you"ve caused no alerts and no kills; this essentially tells you that
particular chapter was done to near perfection.
Walkthrough - Act 1: Liquid Sun
When you first enter the game, do yourself a favor and save the game. You may
want to see the Mission Briefing for Act 1 in the main menu (cause it"s the
fastest way to get to it) so you can fetch yourself a battery for later. Move
the Metal Gear Mk.II around (hit Square once OTACON puts the bot on the
ground) and explore the plane. Resume the game from where you left off. You
will have a way to go before you actually get the benefits of your two
batteries.
Ground Zero
From hero to zero, get Snake"s old withered ass down to the ground and go
under the truck. Note that the Gecko or the other soldiers, if they spot you,
means you"ve successfully caused a "wonk" alert and you can start reloading
your first of many saved games. Get under the damn truck and initiate a cut-
scene. Simalcrum says, "cut that crap" and get control once more. Snake should
be standing next to a dead guy and an AK102.
Checkpoint Reached
Take the enemy"s weapon and get ready to do your first instance of sneaking
past the Gecko. You can head into the street from either side of the building
(left or right). You cause different cut-scenes -- Snake going left or right --
but the chief thing is that both puts you in the same spot afterwards.
Simalcrum advises going left (after the Gecko appearance movie crap), since
the right side is rather exposed.
If you check the map (do that often), you can more or less gauge where the map
exit is. Let"s assume you"re smart, take simalcrum"s advice and head to the
left side of Ground Zero. If you remember from the map, there is a small alley
that leads out to the main street, and past that, the map"s exit. When you
round the corner (turning right), a Gecko will always drop in. Unless you"re
phenomenally stupid, wait for the constantly spawning militia to appear to
distract it. Once the Gecko blocking your way to the exit is sufficiently
turned around, crouch and WALK (do not run), to the exit.
You should hit the exit with no alerts, and because you avoid all the militia
who fire like retards who die doing the epileptic monkey dance, you should
cause no kills.
Red Zone
Needless to say, once the all-helpful black bars close around you, you"ve hit
the ever lovable
Checkpoint Reached
And you should save your game -- after skipping that pretentious cut-scene
that displays how machines are so stupid, they do not see a floating human
head. You should be in a somewhat quiet street with patrolling PMCs. Since you
don"t want to cause any alerts (using stealth camo, you can freely run and
collect all the weapons you want), start by going prone, getting the camo to
change to the terrain, and crawl (full speed is possible on all but the
hardest difficulties). Head into the buildings on the right side.
While there is one enemy there, you can easily avoid his attention by going
around him. If you feel the need is there to commit some kind of stun damage,
use your CQC to grab him and slam him to the ground. Do not hold him too long
or you kill him; alternately, you can use the Stun Knife to drop him. Once
he"s down, you have about a minute (less on harder difficulties) to escape
this map before he wakes up and causes a "caution phase". Since you do not
have the Mk.II pistol at this time, it is perhaps better to avoid the enemy
rather than risk a confrontation.
The end of this map section is near the PMC Striker/APC. Wait for the enemies
to move away before you move Snake out to the next part of the map. Time to
get a
Checkpoint Reached
and a much needed save game, to cool your wracking nerves. You should now be
in a small plaza with a statue. Attempting to hide as a statue multiple times
is "bonerific". Note that the enemy APC is behind you (from the previous
section), so any stupid noise or alerts now means you"re being no more
stealthy than a nymphomaniac flasher from Southern Florida -- proudly known as
America"s wang.
AVOID going into the buildings and AVOID deviating too much from the most
direct path to your next objective -- where you meet OTACON"s Metal Gear Mk.II
for your checkpoint and Mk.II pistol. The destination is more or less marked
on your map (you can"t see it in the above shot since it was taken
afterwards).
Shoot for the building marked on your map and -- this time -- you may want to
stun (taser) the lone guard on the right street since he will disappear after
the cut-scene with the Metal Gear Mk.II. If you don"t, just remember your
shadow will make Snake"s camo rating suffer; move him quickly once the enemy
turns away so you get to the exit undetected.
Checkpoint Reached
Old Snake should get new gear. Equip the Solid Eye and keep the Mk.II"s
controls handy (the pisol and the Metal Gear). You can use the Metal Gear
Mk.II to cloak and pick up enemy weapons (don"t shock, since you decloak the
robot and cause an alert). But without Drebin"s shop, all you do is collect
ammunition after grabbing a new weapon.
Checkpoint Reached
The goal now is to dive into the militia"s safehouse, which means you will be
in close quarters with the enemy soldiers you"ve been avoiding (and failing to
assist). Because they will view Snake as an enemy, it is imperative that you
remain hidden. If you didn"t kill them, keeping your camo rating high may not
cause an alert in the easiest difficulty even if a militiaman "finds" Snake.
However, don"t count on that and instead, opt to avoid at all costs.
Note that if you think you can take out the enemy PMC without Drebin"s
assistance (and cause no alerts), you need to be brain-wiped.
Safehouse
Naturally, once you head down into the safehouse map, you get a
Checkpoint Reached
A lot of the alerts can be caused now, since you will be so close to enemies.
Avoid the first guard, you can save your tranq-dart ammo for enemies later.
When you go into the dark tunnel, switch the Solid Eye to nightvision mode
(not as cool as the enhanced night vision from Tom Clancy"s Splinter Cell
Double Agent but still works). Stay in the alcove on the left (or right --
work with what you see) until three milita have passed you by. Unlike the more
sensitive "Haven Trooper", the militia and PMCs will not hear the nightvision
whine OTACON introduces in the next stage.
You will hit a chicken coop next. Take the items you see, but try not to cause
a ruckus (or kill animals). Head out and be ready to hide in a small recess on
your right to let two more suckers -- or if you prefer, militamen -- to pass
by on their way out to die. Notice that all during this time, you"ve not hit a
checkpoint, so if you cause an alert right now, you have to do all this shit
again.
As you approach the wounded in the militia infirmary, you will hopefully
trigger a conversation of a wounded man and a patrolling militia man about the
Beauty and Beast Corps. While that dialogue runs, duck into the body disposal
area and shake the two corpses quietly for items and ammo. Once the militia
guard runs out from the infirmary, he will be gone, so you can head into the
infirmary and exploit the wounded.
If you want to take your stun knife and taser all the enemies here, you can do
that (they will not drop items since you cannot interact with their bodies).
However, there are some items here that will help. Be sure to equip the Mk.II
pistol and be ready to move carefully again. Remember, you haven"t hit a
checkpoint yet.
Head into the next tunnel into the militia"s research room. Two soldiers will
be inspecting a wing blasted from one of the mechas attacking them and it"s
hard to move around this room without causing a commotion. Try going prone and
then using first-person view to shoot down the two guards here but only if
necessary. There will be more enemies ahead who will run into this room later
and you do not want to cause suspicion.
The spur on the map is a dead end -- there"s only one way to go and that"s
forward. Avoid the next set of guards (hence not shooting the militia
scientists previously) by ducking under the boiler thing on the left as you
encounter them. Once this last patrol passes by, there should only be two more
enemies in the final room to the exit (and a finally a damn checkpoint). Note
that the two rooms to either side will have some items you will want to pick
up -- even if you won"t use them now for fear of causing an alert.
Downtown Julie Brown
Go and grab the much needed
Checkpoint Reached
and save your game and the bullcrap. From now on, you will be able to earn
cash from picking up weapons. Considering you probably didn"t have
foreknowledge of enemy placement, the stealth requirement is pretty nerve-
wracking. Anyway, de-equip the M4 Custom and see if you can save up for the
Mosin-Nagant ($60K) and the Saiga 12 ($40K). Both of these weapons will come
in handy once you"ve gotten some LTL stun/sleep ammunition.
Do not go through the building just yet. Spend some time running around and
grabbing some weapon parts, RPG-7s, and other items. You can hang over, drop,
and grab again to get to one level below Snake. Keep exploring the area (there
are no enemies to speak of until you reach the next p.o.s. cut-scene with
Johnny Sazaki), which incidentally provides you with a much needed
Checkpoint Reached
With the checkpoint, save a new game file and proceed down the right side of
the street. Avoid the main street (too much fighting) and avoid getting close
to anyone who might give you away. Follow the map around to the side alley.
Spend some time using the Metal Gear Mk.II (cloaked) to collect weapons, since
you will want to build your cash now.
It"s rather risky, but if you can work into the building where the PMC snipers
are, you can pick up an MBR-14 sniper rifle that fires like an assault rifle
(it can also be silenced). However, simalcrum advises avoiding the building
altogether, as there are many chances to cause an alert. Note that the snipers
will be alerted (criteria failed) if you have Snake crawl into their field of
fire anyway, so avoid the conflict (use the Solid Eye to view enemy locations)
and proceed along the left side of main street.
There"s no hard checkpoint until you reach the damned hotel, so you should
hustle silently. Stay on the left side of the main street, prone and moving
(take note you need to stop when you cross over a new ground texture). You can
avoid all enemies and crawl into the ditch as the PMC chopper attacks. Stay
near the trench, avoid the corpse (makes Snake stand up), and inch towards the
exit on the side of the hotel. However, do find a safe (dark) spot in the
street and use the Metal Gear Mk.II to collect (do not attack or touch
enemies) weapons. You will appreciate the money later.
Hotel Sordide from Benny Hill
Once you"re inside the hotel, there will be no enemies. You can also get
Checkpoint Reached
Leave the Solid Eye on nightvision to spot all the traps in the hotel. Spend
time collecting them (go prone to disarm traps) and the items they guard. Use
this time to re-arrange your weapons and items to inlcude the Stun Knife (for
this next fight only), the Mk.II pistol, and Stun Grenades if you have them
unlocked. Go through the building and head to the roof to meet up with Snake"s
contact. Cut through the crap to get a much needed
Checkpoint Reached
Take off the Operator handgun from your inventory and proceed to stay near
Meryl"s goon squad so they do all the killing. Provided you only stun enemies
while they are on the floor (and not on the wall), you will only stun the
Haven Trooper enemy. If you shoot someone when they are on the wall or
ceiling, the fall will break their neck and cause a death. Simalcrum tried
this using CQC and Stun Knife only, and Mk.II pistol on those wall-climbing
bitches and the only time a kill was registered was when someone was tranq"ed
on a wall and a death was registered. It"s been widely accepted however, that
the falling deaths do not count against you -- it may be one of MGS4"s
numorous little glitches.
Down the enemies using LTL methods and move to the next floor with Meryl. The
dangerous parts are when enemies surround you in the kitchen (your allies can
get killed), when the wall to the bathroom is destroyed (again an ambush), and
right after the bulldozer destroys the wall (since your allies will be near
death). Be sure to attack enemies and -- should you need it -- use Rations to
stay alive. Note that for the top ranks, you cannot use any healing items.
Before you head down the hole (past the lasers Johnny Sazaki deactivates),
roll past the hole for some rare items. Once the end of the sequence is done,
you get a merciful
Checkpoint Reached
Provided you didn"t kill anyone during the Haven Trooper fight, you should see
a Frog Trooper Statue near Snake after Meryl and her goon squad takes off. If
by some chance you don"t see it (note - it will not appear if you picked it up
before), that means you whacked someone (somehow). Reload and retry. If you
think that"s painful, you"ve not seen nothing yet.
Crescent Meridian
The next part involves some careful finesse in avoiding enemies. Even if the
militia tank is destroyed, you can get around the barricade by going up the
ladder near the roadblock and then following the walkway around to the other
side. The key here is to use the Mk.II pistol to careful put out PMCs so you
can take their Mk.17s (SCAR-Hs) and ammo for money. You will find some heavy
weapons on the rooftops as well. The ladder you want is on the left side of
the main street, so you need to be careful going around the firefight.
Once you are past the first area of the downtown, some crap will happen. Cut
that stuff short and move into the second part. You should also get a muc
needed
Checkpoint Reached
Be sure to loot the dead bodies here, since there are no enemies (yet). Move
down the street while prone to avoid the majority of the PMC patrols. Head
into the building and up the stairs. Be sure to drug the PMC guard upstairs
who patrols there. Before dropping down the hole, check the doors for lockers
holding items.
The goal here is to simply reach the red door to Liquid"s compound. Anything
else (exploring, shooting guards, causing alerts) is futile. Avoid the guard
near the bombed out entrance of the building you were in. Head left into the
truck lot (go under the crack in the wall) and avoid guards. Beware that the
camo rating here will suffer thanks to the sunlight. Use the Mk.II pistol to
headshot lone guards that get in your way, but bewary of guards who move back
to check their friends (causes Caution Phase).
Generally, if you can get away with avoiding a lone guard, do it. In the truck
lot, use the Solid Eye on normal mode to track the enemy location. Hug the
wall you crawled under (should be on your right), and follow it to the end.
Where the wall makes a left, follow it to the red door. As noted, there are
infinite enemies here. Kill one, and a new guard will spawn from the door you
need to reach to replace the casualty. Unless you"re exceptionally dull, don"t
do anything rash and you can exit through that red exit door with no kills,
and better -- no alerts.
You should have finished chapter 1 with no kills and alerts if you did things
correctly. If you have not, you will need to think back to what you may have
done wrong and reload that part of the game. Quit the game if you did things
wrong -- you do not want to install the next stage if you need to reload an
old game.
Walkthrough - Act 2: Solid Sun
After skipping through all the crap, you will be able to find another
(preferably third) battery during the briefing mission with the Mk.II. When
you"ve scoured for all the items, skip to the end and save your stuff. If you
haven"t already, consider (not necessary) buying a Mosin-Nagant from Drebin
when you start this chapter. You may find that its zoom is helpful in some
cases when you need to drop someone from far away. For sure, you will want to
spend a few bucks to unlock the Stun Grenades, and save about 50,000 for the
Saiga 12 and some LTL ammo. It"ll be helpful for the boss fight.
Cove Village
When you begin, it will be very dark. Use the Solid Eye"s nightvision to
locate enemies here. Although you can get more items and stuff here by freeing
the prisoners being executed in the village, it"s better to avoid any alerts
now (the villagers attacking the PMCs up the road will cause more of them to
appear). Let the prisoners be executed and focus instead on hugging the left
wall and getting the hell out of Dodge.
You will notice you will come across several patrolling PMCs. Wait for them to
move away, or if you are in a hurry, tranquilize them and move quickly away.
If someone finds them asleep, they will rouse them from sleep. This increases
your risk of discovery. Make for the checkpoint -- which is marked by a very
unhelpful CODEC message from old man Campbell.
Checkpoint Reached
The next part of Cove Village involves staying hidden in the narrow trails
past the residences. Go around the fight and let your rebel guys from Endor
die for you. Not only do they provide distraction, but the weapons they drop
can be picked up by your Metal Gear Mk.II (stay cloaked) and sold for money.
Collect guns until you notice the selling price drops a lot. This way, you can
amass tens of thousands of dollars for your own use later.
The best bet in this small clearing (after you decide to move on) is to stick
to the left wall, go prone and move to the exit. Use the Mk.II pistol to drop
enemy PMCs who get in your way and pause every now and then to re-acquire the
terrain (keeps your camo rating high). Once you reach the power station area,
you will have
Checkpoint Reached
Non-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Power Plant
The power plant here apparently can be sabotaged so the rebels can take over
all the other areas later, hence skipping your pretense for stealth. While
that may help in time runs, sneaking into the power plant is a pain in the
ass. To disable the power plant, you need to use an explosive to destroy the
control panel in the plant -- however, you can simply ignore that and move on.
It is far easier to skip that bull to avoid detection. Head to the right side
of the first power plant area and take out the PMCs there with the MK.II
pistol. If you are uncomfortable with shooting the snipers through the grass,
just remember that your goal is to not kill anyone and to avoid detection.
With that in mind, just hug the right wall, head down the ramp and move to the
next section of map, ignoring the power station altogether. You will meet that
wild man Drebin in a long-winded cut-scene and get a much needed
Checkpoint Reached
The next section afterwards is still in the power plant area, but it will be
against some soldiers in a narrow valley. When you have a good spot, make sure
to hang around and start collecting weapons dropped by the dead so you can
collect your money.
Since you didn"t bother with helping the good guys, bad guys will be
patrolling the valley you want to get out on. Shoot them up with drugs and
move to the next clearing. Keep the Solid Eye"s nightvision going and you
should be able to detect the disturbances they make, as well as be able to see
their thermal forms easily amidst the jungle clutter. Don"t hang around once
you have taken down an enemy, as that gives you more time to deal with new
threats while they sleep. Exit to the confinement area for another checkpoint.
Checkpoint Reached
Confinement Facility
This is a prison area. The left has an optional prison but right is where you
want to go. Follow the PMC supply truck and drop the guard quietly patrolling
the salt/sulphur flat. Drop to the ground, cross the road, and hug the left
wall. This is the easiest way to get to the next section without being spotted
(and without meddling with the power plant). You will get a
Checkpoint Reached
once you hit the area known as the Vista Mansion. While both Vista Mansion and
the Confinement Facility are merged on the map below, they are separate areas.
Make use of the checkpoint, as you may need to restart from here if you make
an alert.
You will enter another small clearing with soldiers fighting again. Just like
the previous clearing in Cove Valley, hug the left wall while prone and nail
enemies who are too close. Once you approach the mansion"s gate, a cut-scene
of a dozer will occur and it will open the gate for you. Follow it inside.
Once in the mansion"s grounds, leave the Solid Eye on normal vision (everyone
will be firing, so the disturbances are all you need). You can actually stand
and run while following the mansion ground"s right wall. It will lead you to
the garden behind the mansion. A quick dive into the window (or find a door)
and you"re inside the mansion.
Vista Mansion (Interior)
The inside of the mansion is enemy light -- apart from the snipers on the
roof, there seems to be only two enemies inside who comes downstairs on the
first three tiers of difficulty. Notice there"s no checkpoint so far until you
get out of the mansion into the prison where Naomi is being held, so don"t
mess around. However, do drain your battery using the Metal Gear Mk.II to
collect weapons. You will want the money later.
Once inside the mansion, you can more or less stand up, but be wary that two
PMCs will come downstairs when you approach the stairs. Stay hidden near the
crook of the stairs and you should be able to avoid both enemies. Head up to
the second floor and get out onto the roof that has the skylight opening. Drop
down and notice the amount of ammo and items around. That"s generally
indicative of a boss fight. Before you approach the ladder (and hence cut to
the next section), arrange your weapons so you have the Mk.II pistol, Stun
Grenades, and Saiga 12 with V-ring ammo in your inventory. When you use the
ladder, you will have a
Checkpoint Reached
Boss Fight - Laughing Octopus
The boss will not appear until after her all-girl goon squad is gone. Deal
with these angry women by going underneath the bed to your right when you
start. Be sure to disable the Operator handgun afterwards and re-select your
Mk.II pistol. Use first-person aim to take down the enemy Haven Troopers when
the y come into the cabin two at a time ... on caution phase. During this
section, you will have a
Checkpoint Reached
So save once you are in a safe place. If you cause an alert phase, many more
will come in (and wreck your criteria). Although it"s cheesy, you can purchase
extra ammunition from Drebin during a boss fight, should you need it (this
will not work on harder difficulties). Drug up all the Haven girls with horse
tranquilizers so the "caution phase" timer disappears. Once that"s done, make
sure to have Stun Grenades and the Saiga 12 or 87MCS with V-ring ammo on hand.
The actual boss is annoying and can kill you in a few hits if you let her
squash Snake. Octopus will try to machinegun you from afar, disappear in ink
afterwards, and send out three tracking grenades that find you will unerring
accuracy. Although she will also not attack initially, she will be more
aggressive as she takes more life or stun damage.
Initially, Octopus will hide, beckoning you to find her. Use the Solid Eye"s
nightvision mode to locate her and waste her. When you cannot see here, track
her disturbances when she talks. Nail her in the head with the Mk.II pistol or
Saiga 12/V-ring when you can (this is to help unlock the Solar Gun). Unless
you already have the Solar Gun, try not to use lethal ammo on Octopus.
Octopus will hide in one of several places:
Rafters
Look up and shoot her. Going under may let her stomp Snake for a lot of damage.
As part of the wall
Her suit hides her well (unless on the easiest setting). Attack her shimmering
form with LTL attacks to get her out of hiding.
As equipment
She hides in a box on a shelf, or as part of the scanning equipment in the
lab. Occasionally, she hides as the biology mannequin, but in all cases, her
tentacles or body glows white hot in nightvision mode.
As Naomi, Metal Gear Mk.II, or Haven Soldier
She hides as one of these forms but you can tell the fake is a fake. Naomi"s
form still has the tentacles from the head. OTACON"s Metal Gear Mk.II is
floating (and it would always be under your control anyway). And the Haven
Trooper depends if you let Octopus" bombs explode on the sleeping soldiers --
in most cases, their bodies will have been deleted by the PS3 to free up RAM.
Octopus gets more aggressive once her life or stun meters are halfway
depleted. She will not only attempt to use her tentacle to shock you, but she
will roll into a ball and ram Snake. This ram attack is deadly, tracking, and
kills in two hits (Solid Normal). You should make an effort to avoid it by
hiding under a bed, climbing on top of a bed, or climbing on top of a table or
small crate.
If you are not too demanding on time, you can resort to hiding under the bed
and shooting her thighs with LTL ammo as she tries to attack you. The downside
to this is the time it takes for her to retreat, then come back looking for
you. Once you drain Octopus of her life or stun, the next part starts.
Boss Fight - Laughing Beauty
You have 3 minutes to kill or stun the human boss before she dies on her own.
Since we"re after bonuses here, make an effort to stun her. The Stun Grenades
are best for this since all beauties have a mystical dodging ability to evade
bullets. Not even the auto-aiming feature can help you counter this. So by
covering an area, she has no place to dodge to. Note though that Stun Grenades
will also blind your screen, so make sure you have a way to escape or the boss
will catch Snake and do crap to him.
Stunning the mechanical form of Octopus means you can also find the Octopus
Figure on one of the beds in the lab. Get it before beating beauty, or you
have to fight the boss all over again to get the figure.
Stunning the human form of Octopus means you automatically get to eat her face
with the Face Camo item in the next stage.
Mountain Trail
You get a
Checkpoint Reached
after leaving the lab. You will want to save here and at the next checkpoint
(at the river) since enemies here may not show up on your Solid Eye. Begin by
getting your weapons and items ready to explore and to drop enemies (Mk.II
pistol but no Stun Grenades). The Mosin-Nagant here may cause more noise than
be of help, so be warned. The Saiga or 870MCS won"t be used until the next
area. For sure though, put on the Face Camo to increase your camo rating to
near maximum.
The first part of the trail is sparse with enemies, but any dwelling on the
map will have an enemy. Follow the map below (and reference it with your map)
for enemy locations. You can still them all with drugged darts or avoid them.
It"s best though, to make a bee-line for the river and a second checkpoint
instead of messing around.
Once you cross the river, you will have a second
Checkpoint Reached
and have a new problem. The Solid Eye"s nightvision is actually noisy when
it"s running. Hence, the sensitive Haven Troopers you fought before will be
alerted to your presence if you use it. However, you cannot locate enemies
easily in the brush, so what to do? Go through your weapons list and locate
the weapon with the best "LKD ON" rating (it"s the stat near the bottom). Go
to third person view and turn on auto-aiming (enable this in Game Options,
then press SQUARE when you have a weapon capable of auto-aiming). Select the
weapon and press L1 (but don"t fire). You will be able to see enemies with
some ease if they are in lock on range of the weapon.
With that in mind, you can now more or less "detect" enemies again, even if it
is a clunky method. Once you know where the enemies are however, you can
commit them to memory. Their positions change only when you go to the harder
difficulties. By then, you should be more than familiar with the game to know
what to do and what not to do.
Pick the path with the least number of enemies -- you can bypass them all
except the mine-laying guy, the soldier near the narrow path to the exit, and
one of the Haven girls since she"s so close to where you"ll be crawling (drug
the bitch). Get by here without a kill and without an alert and you"re on your
way to getting the impressive Stealth Camo, which pretty much lets you break
the sneaking sections against humans.
Before you leave this area (black bar warning), give yourself a Saiga 12 and
LTL ammo, and perhaps a Mosin-Nagant. You might need one or the other (or
both) in the next immediate section.
Drebin"s Gun Ride
It should be noted that you will get a
Checkpoint Reached
at each instance when Drebin"s IFV goes into a new map, so make a few saves
just in case you accidentally kill someone. This means you don"t have to start
back in the Mountain Trail. Use the Saiga 12 or Mosin Nagant to stun the two
power-suits (they look like small humanoid robots) blocking the gate. While
you can wait until Drebin drives through them, you can cut your stay short if
you can KO the power suit operators. Any of the PMCs who zombie up to your
Dead Rising APC can be CQC"ed or stunned with the shotgun.
The next section has Gecko and PMCs. The danger here to your no kill criteria
is if a PMC crawls up the APC while you are using the turret gun to destroy
Gecko. This will destroy your no-kills criteria, so you need to be careful
where you aim. Use the Solid Eye"s nightvision now if you need to see better --
no one will hear you here.
The next few sections involve destroying Gecko using the turret gun. If you
feel like you must, use the shotgun in first person mode to stun/blast off the
hanging PMCs before you start up your chain gun. It can be annoying to kill a
soldier by accident after having made sure your hands were clean all this
time. The final part of the gun ride involves destroying a green gate to
escape. The enemy "MGS" (Mobile Gun System) can be destroyed easily before the
gate appears -- just hose it down and when it goes dark (in nightvision mode)
you"ve destroyed it. The enemy tank plays in the cut-scene regardless if you
disabled it, so just let things ride.
Marketplace Escape
You will get a much needed
Checkpoint Reached
after being ditched in the marketplace. The Gecko here may "see" Snake, but
will not affect your alert count. Put the free RPG-7 in your weapons choices
(and perhaps Rations if you are unsure if you will die). While you don"t want
to hang around fighting enormous bipedal robots, one or two will always block
your path to the exit. Hence, you need to fight back by toppling it so you can
get by. If you go near a Gecko without disabling it, it will lash out with a
roundhouse kick that will kill you in one or two hits. If you really need to,
use the Mk.II pistol to tranquilize the biomechanical Gecko"s legs -- however,
the three shots you need may sometimes take too long.
The alley to your left will have a heavy weapon, as does the alley to your
right. The left alley will require you to fight a few more Geckos though, so
choose your path wisely. The final Gecko is at the roadblock. Disable it
temporarily with heavy firepower, then go past the roadblock to exit the map.
You should have finished chapter 2 with no kills and alerts if you did things
correctly. If you have not, you will need to think back to what you may have
done wrong and reload that part of the game.
Quit the game if you did things wrong -- you do not want to install the next
stage if you need to reload an old game.
Walkthrough - Act 3: Third Sun
The first half of this mission is annoying in getting no alerts since the mark
being followed can sometimes cause enemy patrols to move around. The bike ride
afterwards is a challenge to kill no one, since Snake can only use single
handed weapons. For now, focus on the mission at hand -- tail the resistance
moron.
Tailing the Resistance
The multitude of trails represent the following:
Green - Resistance
The resistance member"s path is approximated in green, including some of the
stops. Note that some of the landmarks and features of the ground (say a side
route) are not represented on your tactical map.
Red - PMCs / Enemies
As before, the red dots are where enemies are stationed. The lines are
approximations of where they go if no alerts or cautionary measures are taken.
Purple - PMC Vehicle
There is one Raven Sword HMMV that patrols the Northeast Sector of the town.
Its route is circuitous, so avoid staying on the street, since the vehicle
will run over Snake, camouflaged or not.
Simalcrum was told that using the Eastern Europe costume and OTACON"s face
camo (bump into OTACON during the stage 3 mission briefing with the Metal Gear
Mk.II) will allow Snake to walk amongst PMC soldiers without much trouble, but
OctoCamo with Octopus" face mask will also work, if a little noisier in harder
difficulties.
The only two trouble spots where the Resistance member will be in danger are
with the two PMC jerks at the park entrance and the two PMCs after the
helicoptor -- these two instances (if no spooks are made) will result in the
Resistance guy being arrested. When that happens, he is spooked and runs off
before resuming his last "action". The game"s A.I. is somewhat hazy here, and
there"s no real way to get the resistance guy to behave save using the sleep
dart and then remaining unseen when he awakens. For sure, you will need to
tranquilize at least a half dozen enemies here (the four who will arrest the
guy and the two PMCs at the beginning). The checkpoints -- aside from the ones
at the beginning of each section -- are marked on the map.
Bike Ride with Eva
Put the double barrelled shotgun with LTL shells in your inventory, as well as
some Smoke Grenades (while you have infinite ammo on the bike). The Mk.II
pistol also helps, since you can down a few enemies without resorting to the
two shot shotgun. However, anyone you hit with the V-ring shell will likely be
knocked out.
For other starters, you can use auto-aim to help you acquire targets (though
it won"t do as well with the Smoke Grenades). Use smoke grenades when you are
close to roadblocks and such, and you can even opt to hide behind Eva (using
her as cover) when you hold Triangle. Save at the start of the bike ride, and
at any checkpoint (map fades) later, to avoid any "accidents" -- such as the
killing of you by us.
During the short sections when Raging Raven attacks with her swarm, you can
use lethal force on the robots -- just watch out as there are still Frog/Haven
Trooopers who are in the area, and killing just one will require you to do the
section over for no kills.
Boss Fight - Raging Raven
This boss is difficult to bring down non-lethally (for Bokati"s Solar Gun),
since she"s floating above the floor and she"s generally too close to have the
Mosin-Nagant line up a good shot. However, you can use the "over the shoulder"
view and shoot her in the head with the Mosin. Stun Grenades won"t work as
well, since it will blind your screen as well. The Saiga (with V-ring ammo)
may be a good alternative -- just remember on Normal, Raging Beauty"s grenades
start doing some serious damage if you let her fire on you. The "alerts"
triggered from Raven"s swarm do not count, so feel free to blast them for
money. Down them and waste the beast form"s stun for the next part.
Beeping Bomb Attack
When you hear a series of rapidly up-tempo beeps, move out from the floor you
are on (up or down) as that indicates Raging Raven is sending in a floor-
cleaning bomb.
When Raven says she"s overheating, she will flashbang your screen (turn away
and you minimize the damage done). Use the Solid Eye"s tracking to see where
the swarm is gathering. Raven will be disabled on the rooftop below
(generally). Shoot her in the head with the Mosin-Nagant to squeeze some more
of this precious window of opportunity.
Boss Fight - Raging Beauty
You have 3 minutes to kill or stun the human boss before she dies on her own.
Since we"re after bonuses here, make an effort to stun her. The Stun Grenades
are best for this since all beauties have a mystical dodging ability to evade
bullets. Not even the auto-aiming feature can help you counter this. So by
covering an area, she has no place to dodge to. Note though that Stun Grenades
will also blind your screen, so make sure you have a way to escape or the boss
will catch Snake and do crap to him.
Stunning the mechanical form of Raven means you can also find the Raven Figure
at the very top floor of the tower. Get it before beating beauty, or you have
to fight the boss all over again to get the figure.
Stunning the human form of Raven means you automatically get to eat her face
with the Face Camo item in the next stage. Now where"s that guy who kills
people and takes their faces?
Checkpoint Reached
You should have finished chapter 3 with no kills and alerts if you did things
correctly. If you have not, you will need to think back to what you may have
done wrong and reload that part of the game.
Quit the game if you did things wrong -- you do not want to install the next
stage if you need to reload an old game.
Walkthrough - Act 4: Twin Suns
The short "serprize" section (each more surprising than the last) at the start
of Act 4 will not count towards your alerts, kill count, deaths, continues,
items used, or time. If you want to know, this was part of the demo made
available with the Zone of the Enders game, except it cuts out the part where
Snake infiltrates the wet docks below. To get by, you can simply avoid the
enemies, go up the stairs on the right and head into the duct -- or die (you
pick). The spotlights are easily bypassed by starting to run to the closest
exit from the helipad once the spotlights start moving.
Heliport and Tank Bay
Note that there are only robots in this stage, barring the bosses, so using
lethal force is encouraged. Do you have more than $550,000? Consider buying
the MP5SD -- or if you prefer, use a silencer on the M4 Custom to selectively
attack the various small scanning robots. However, the first time through, you
will not have that luxury, so stick to sneaking.
The main concern here is the large Gecko. Shroud your heat signature by hiding
against anything, then using the hole to get around the Gecko. Naturally,
using the Solid Eye"s nightvision will help you see everything easily. Get to
the heliport without an alert for some cool tunes. You will also get a very
helpful
Checkpoint Reached
There are no enemies until you enter the tank bay, so use this time to buy and
explore crap. Grab the very vital Chaff Grenades from the heliport (there are
more supposedly in the South America marketplace, but good luck with finding
them there). Don"t miss Snake"s old Mk.23 either (it"s under the truck).
Obviously, you do not want to go inside the main doors -- too many robots on
the floor. Instead, head to the upstairs, go through the air duct and using
Snake"s new moves to drop down twice -- once from the duct and again from the
railing. Your goal is to exit the tank bay"s northern door. You get a
Checkpoint Reached
on entering the Canyon past the tank bay, so you need to be careful just a bit
more by avoiding the scanning lasers from the stationary Dwarf Gecko.
Canyon and Warhead Storage
Keep an eye on your lower left for the checkpoints (there are one for almost
each room in this act, thanks to the closeness of the different rooms). The
two stationary Gecko in the canyon are fakes. They will get up if you get too
close, so avoid triggering them. Go straight down the center while crouched or
prone and enter the warhead storage building. For making it there, you get a
Checkpoint Reached
The warhead storage building will have a nasty puzzle in a while, but for now,
check the elevator to OTACON"s old office (where you fought Gray Fox) and the
larger doors going out to the Communications Tower and Snow Field (where Meryl
got shot). If you want to, buy a few Smoke Grenades or LTL rounds for the MkII
pistol or Mosin-Nagant.
Head down into OTACON"s office (B2) through the lift. Go into the office and
when asked to type in the password, you type in the password OTACON gave you,
or try (better) 148.93 (an old CODEC frequency). The monkey laugh will signify
that you just earned yourself a cool 100,000 Drebin dollars -- 20% of your
Tanegashima.
Head back outside when you are done (check the room for items and flashbacks
for points). Stay to the side of the hall when you approach the exit -- a
Gecko will crash through the roof and spot Snake if you are not careful.
Wait for the Gecko to turn down the corner of the electrified hallway and send
the Mk.II across the hall and to the spot you blew up the with the Nikita
missile in the first game (the panel flashes, if you can"t find it). Use the
Mk.II"s action key to electrocute the floor and blast the Gecko. The hard part
is about to come. Ride the lift back up and trigger a
Checkpoint Reached
When OTACON uses the Mk.II to open the storage bay"s doors, a second Gecko
will appear from the elevator. How something that size can do that is
inconcievable. Use the Mk.II pistol to tranquilize it, or if you want, hide
against the pillar where the Mk.II is hacking, peek out, and throw Smoke
Grenades into the far corner to avoid an alert. Once the door is open, get the
hell out. Note if you go back inside, the Gecko will be there unless you
killed it.
Checkpoint Reached
CommTower and Snow Field
Stock up on the upcoming boss fight by picking up the various weapons in the
shed. Once Snake drops off the ledge, he cannot go back to earlier sections of
Shadow Moses. Put a Mosin-Nagant and Mk.II pistol in your inventory -- you
still cannot kill anything yet.
Boss Fight - Crying Wolf and Snowfield
This boss fight is complete b.s. if it weren"t for the infinite number of
Haven Troopers who can trigger an alert phase and attack. The best thing to do
is to hide like a coward (i.e., man with smarts) under the treaded transport
truck. This not only protects Snake from the cold, but also keeps him hidden
from patrolling Haven Troopers.
Peek out from under the truck and drop the Haven Troopers with sleep darts.
While they will wake eventually, it gets them out of the way while fighting
Crying Wolf. The boss wolf will get out of her mecha to fight you (in that
case, she appears whiter than a KKK member at a NAACP meeting if you"re using
the Solid Eye"s nightvision) -- when she does that, she will fire on Snake and
note that her weapon fires through trees.
Do your best to draw a bead on her head with the Mosin-Nagant and fire. Three
or four shots will be all you need. If the odd cases when she does not appear
as a noisy dot on your Solid Eye, walk around the truck and let the blizzard
blow Snake"s man-musk towards her to incite her into attacking. This fight is
more about wasting your time than anything else. The hard part of course, is
avoiding detection by the Haven Troopers.
Boss Fight - Crying Beauty
You have 3 minutes to kill or stun the human boss before she dies on her own.
Since we"re after bonuses here, make an effort to stun her. The Stun Grenades
are best for this since all beauties have a mystical dodging ability to evade
bullets. Not even the auto-aiming feature can help you counter this. So by
covering an area, she has no place to dodge to. Note though that Stun Grenades
will also blind your screen, so make sure you have a way to escape or the boss
will catch Snake and do crap to him.
Stunning the mechanical form of Wolf means you can also find the Wolf Figure
behind Snake when the Crying Beauty fight begins. Get it before beating
beauty, or you have to fight the boss all over again to get the figure.
Stunning the human form of Wolf means you automatically get to eat her face
with the Face Camo item in the next stage.
Checkpoint Reached
Snow Field (post-Boss)
No enemies in the Snow Field, so burn time and explore the area for items.
Anything extra you find, you can sell for the much needed money. If you
haven"t gotten your Drebin points up to around 400,000 or more by now, you
will find it very hard to increase the total to the required 500,000 for the
Tanegashima rifle.
Blast Furnace and Casting Facility
There"s a
Checkpoint Reached
inside, so breathe easy. The hard part now is using Snake"s overhang and drop
on the fences to go down to the blast furnace door, trigger a CODEC, then head
up the stairs on the sides then hang/roll off to the actual exit door to the
casting facility. All while dodging the curious lasers of the scanning bots.
Work with your tactical map and your wits -- you will be able to get by
without trouble if you don"t give the Dwarf Gecko a reason to find you.
Checkpoint Reached
Going down the elevator, learn to hide on the side so Snake will not be
visible in the door. At the bottom of the lift, a large Gecko will be in full
view of the lift and may sometimes see you. Since the Gecko is very sensitive,
avoid using the Metal Gear Mk.II or even going near the damn thing (wasting
darts is futile). Head north (either side will do but the left side is easier
even if you have to cross over to the right later).
In the north half of the casting facility, you will find the left side easier
to penetrate to the end. So long as you crouch and walk, you should avoid
disturbing the scanning routes of the Gecko. Clamber atop the conveyor belt
when the large Gecko is turned around and move quickly (but quietly) across
the belts, drop, and turn left to exit. You should be in the clear.
Checkpoint Reached
Underground
Underground, you will want to silence the M4 Carbine and go through the hole.
You can shoot the two small Gecko here and cause only caution (but no alerts).
Take care that if you do miss with the M4 (or fire loudly), you will cause an
alert. As a side note, avoid dropping into the holes in the room. They are
left over trap doors from the first game.
Boss Fight - Vamp
Vamp is a special boss fight since his "death" is never attributed to Snake.
Hence, you can use whatever weapons you want, although the Saiga 12 is still
handy. Select the Syringe you picked up back in Act 2 and have it ready. When
Vamp is "dead" (either bar will do), he will fall over, then rise again fully
regenerated. You need to CQC hold Vamp and inject him with the Syringe (like
the S-Plug, press Triangle with the item selected). Everything about Vamp is
moderately easy to figure out -- avoid his attacks and use free run to escape
instead of locked-on strafing.
Checkpoint Reached
Gecko Horde
Fight off the exploding Gecko using Wolf" railgun (you cannot select another
weapon during this fight). Charge the gun by holding L1 and when the bar is
full (you will hear a tone the maximum charge is reached), fire at a
Gecko"s "head" or its waist where its body joins the legs. A level 3 charge
will destroy a Gecko. There are some railgun rounds under the REX (and a good
place to hide while charging the gun -- just don"t get close to a wall or the
gun flips up), but if you need more ammo, just buy it from Drebin.
After enough Gecko"s are killed (or when the Vamp Vs. Raiden Vs. Sub-Zero vs.
Scorpion fight is concluded), this section ends.
Checkpoint Reached
Escape From Shadow Moses
You are given 4 minutes to escape the Gecko filled tunnels before you are
entombed with the exploding Gecko. However, you only need 90 seconds to run
through to the escape point. That said, you should spend 90 seconds (give
yourself 30 seconds of breathing room) killing Gecko here for 1500 points per
pop. Use the gatling gun intermittently (L1 and R1) and you should be able to
fire it forever. Now that you take a look at it, the Metal Gear REX isn"t all
that bad!
When the timer reads 2:30:00, start moving forwards and pressing R1 (without
L1) to slide kick through the damned Gecko (this will not be the last you see
of them). At each juntion, strafe right and continue forwards. You should
reach the exit with not much of a problem.
Checkpoint Reached
Boss Fight - Metal Gear RAY
The fight between REX and RAY is pretty much like a Zone of the Enders/Tekki
fight. Charge the REX"s FP Laser (hold L1) and fire it when it has at least
one level of charge to down the enemy mech. Get close if you can and press
Triangle to do a melee combo on the enemy machine. The missiles are useful for
racking small hits on the enemy machine and the gatling gun is best used for
downing the enemy missiles.
Destroy the enemy"s weapon systems in its two arms, then focus on dodging
(joystick left or right and X) when it tries to charge you or down it with a
full power weapons discharge. Always release L1 to fight in melee -- this lets
you dodge better and to hit the button prompts for combo damage. Once the RAY
is destroyed, you win.
You should have finished chapter 4 with no kills and alerts if you did things
correctly. If you have not, you will need to think back to what you may have
done wrong and reload that part of the game.
Quit the game if you did things wrong -- you do not want to install the next
stage if you need to reload an old game.
Walkthrough - Act 5: Old Sun
This is an initially hard stage to sneak by; however, you can get by using
just the Mk.II pistol, full camouflage (with Face Camo) and some patience.
When you land, make sure to save your
Checkpoint Reached
Ship Bow
The infamously dreaded Ship"s Bow is always on caution mode, since there are
infinite enemies once an alert is triggered. You can sneak by the left side or
the right side of the ship (from your perspective) -- you have to avoid a few
more ground patrols on the left side, but the right side is equally daunting
since you need to go above and around the spawning Haven Troopers (two at a
time, they jump down).
When you do choose to fire on a Haven Trooper pair, pick your target so you
can nail one Frog Soldier after another without letting them notice their
partner is down. Do down all the Haven Troopers if you knock one out, as when
enemies awaken, they will sprint back to their previous spots on their patrol
route and may stumble on your hiding spot.
Prone yourself to the bulkhead door and watch for Haven Trooper snipers in
spots you cannot get to. The Solid Eye is not useful in finding the snipers,
since they make no disturbances. Avoid the nightvision mode, as the low whine
will alert these sensitive soldiers to your presence.
At the bulkhead door, wait for the artillery from Mei-ling"s ship to blast the
Gecko or -- if you are in a rush -- knock out the Gecko temporarily using
three tranquilizer darts to their legs. While the Gecko thrashes on the
ground, it will not notice you. Use this window of opportunity to hammer the
Triangle button to get the bulkhead door open. Once you are inside the ship,
there are no more enemies to the boss.
If you want to buy weapons and ammo now (for 50% off), do it now so you can
use the
Checkpoint Reached
at the bottom of the lift to temporarily save your effort. If you haven"t
bought any V-ring ammo for the shotgun, LTL darts for the Mosin-Nagant, and
darts for the Mk.II pistol, you may want to top them off now. If you have more
than $500,000, buy the Tanegashima now. It is the best time to do so. Save
here once you do, since the mistakes that occur will be made during the next
scene and during the boss fight.
Haven Trooper Encounter
This fight is hard only if you lose your cool and kill enemies, spoiling your
otherwise good standing record. Try instead, to hide at the very edge of the
lower floor and using the columns and computer panels to hide. Alerts do not
count here (or any more), so leave the Solid Eye on nightvision mode all the
time to track the enemy movements. Use the Mk.II pistol or Saiga with LTL ammo
on close enemies and the Mosin on enemies on the upper walkway.
After each wave of Haven Troopers, there will be a new spawn of enemies. When
you are down to the last Haven Trooper, you can attempt to hide and recover a
little life. Deal with the three enemy waves and pop the syringe into your
backpack for the boss fight. If you save here, make a new file, since any
mistakes you make would"ve been reflected before the boss fight.
Boss Fight - Screaming Mantis
This fight is only a danger if you use lethal guns on the meat puppets. Use
the syringe at the start of the fight to reclaim Snake"s control. If Mantis
hits you again with her puppeteering shot, you will need to use the syringe
again. You can use the syringe less than a dozen times before it starts
robbing you of health, so there is an importance of not being hit by the boss"
shots.
Use the Saiga 12"s V-ring liberally on zombie and Mantis" doll alike. Aim for
the doll on her right (meaning your left). Having her drop that doll, then you
picking it up and using it is the only way to beat her. You can use lethal
ammo on the dolls with no penalty to your kill score, so if you must, do that.
Just remember if a puppet comes before you, you may kill her by accident and
spoil yourself.
Note - you can shoot Mantis" other doll and pick that up to add to your
collection. That second doll is a separate weapon that has nothing to do with
beating Mantis.
Once Mantis drops her doll, pick it up and fire it (as a weapon) on Mantis.
Once it connects, continue to hold L1 and shake your Sixaxis or Dual Shock 3
controller at arm"s length (for best effect). Shaking it mildly or close to
make a small arc will not hurt Mantis at all.
Boss Fight - Screaming Beauty
Or exactly how simalcrum likes it - huhuhuhuhuuhuu.
Mantis is the only boss you can defeat using any means to get her figure. Find
the Mantis Figure in the northern cul-de-sac (check your map for direction) on
the lowest level of the command center (the boss" room). Get it before beating
beauty, or you have to fight the boss all over again to get the figure.
Stunning the human form of Mantis means you automatically get to eat her face
with the Face Camo item in the next stage. Consider saving afterwards, but on
a new file -- the mistakes here occur before
Checkpoint Reached
Dwarf Gecko and Microwaving Snake"s Balls
Skip the crap and equip something that fires a lot of bullets and does lethal
damage. The three short rooms you go through next will have a lot of small
robot Gecko who do not respawn, and can be shot up. Let loose and cut through
the bots for Drebin dollars. You can also roll (X button) through them if you
are in a hurry, but it"s more satisfying to earn money for their destruction.
Past that, you need to use the joystick and the Triangle button to do a
crawling sequence through the red hallway. The stick doesn"t look like it aims
Snake much, but it does. Push forward on the stick until you find Snake
crawling on his hands and knees. At that point, tap the Triangle button to
move him forward but you can steer him using the joystick. Try to avoid the
sides, as despite what it looks like, you can fail this crawling sequence.
When the camera focuses on Snake"s face and he"s barely crawling across the
threshold, spam the Triangle key -- you"re more or less home free.
Checkpoint Reached
Boss Fight - Liquid Revolver Snake Ocelot
Whoever this guy is, the controls are much different. Hit the Select button to
view your controls. This guy is surprisingly easy if you dodge well and use
the obstructions (periscopes and schnorkels) atop the conning tower arena to
befuddle his charing attacks. Unless you are actively dodging, hold L1 to
guard against Ocelot and minimize his damage. Be ready to release guard and
dodge (X button and joystick) when he rears back for his lunging punch.
Once Ocelot misses, you can close up (X button and towards him) and unleash
your counter with R1 (tap) or R1 (hold) for a grapple. When the prompts
appear, you can generally spam the R1 and Triangle buttons to hammer Ocelot;
you only need to swap when the stick prompt appears (generally if Snake is
caught by Ocelot in a hold).
For all intents and purposes, this boss fight is the end of the game -- and it
should be fairly easy once you get the basics down. Defeat Ocelot and wait for
the stats to appear (after you skip all the cut-scenes). You should have
finished chapter 5 with no kills and alerts if you did things correctly. If
you have not, you will need to think back to what you may have done wrong and
reload that part of the game.
End Of Line
You should have earned (for completing the game):
- Stealth Camo - for causing no alerts.
- Bandanna - for killing no one.
- Solar Gun - for collecting the 5 BBC statues.
- Tanegashima - bought it at a cut-rate discount in chapter 5.
There are certainly a great deal more secrets in Metal Gear Solid 4"s single
player. A lot of the fun is finding out about them yourself (or from a message
board when you are ultimately bored). Have fun with the Stealth Camo on your
subsequent run-through.
Playstation 3.
Metal Gear Online.
Assassin"s Creed.
Triumph.
